I had the pleasure of meeting Drew and Jessica Welch and their children when they visited at our Open Bible church in Massillon, ohio. It was obvious as they ministered and gave their testimony, that their total dedication, not only to our Lord Jesus, but also to their chosen ministry, and their commitment and love for the people of Liberia, West Africa is deeply sincere.
As most people would understand, the foreign missionary field has never been the safest or most comfortable career choice. Even with the expected dangers of hostile governments and hostile opposing religions in play, the Welch family has had to fend for themselves in underdeveloped areas in Africa where the terrain and wildlife also can become a threat. And yes, there are still cannibals in Africa.
The Welch family gladly endures these adversities to help the people they love, as they continue to rebuild the Christian foundations established in Liberia by previous Open Bible missionaries. They have also taken on the task of completely rebuilding church buildings that have fallen into disrepair and also direct the training of good dedicated teachers who can carry on and help their mission to grow.
While the missionary field is definitely not for timid folks, the Welch family has the satisfaction of reaping the rewards of answered prayers as they see many people come to receive Jesus as the Lord and savior of their lives, while they enjoy the blessing of knowing for certain that they are doing exactly what God has asked them to do. And in their obedience, God has provided miracles of healing within their ministry also. There have been some tears and troubles along the way, but as they have been blessed, most of those tears have been tears of joy.
