The Canton Classic Car Museum of Canton, Ohio has been in operation and open to the public since 1978. And to my embarrassment, after working in Canton and living in Stark County for many years, I was unaware of the scope and magnificence of its presentation of the automobile and its impact on history until my friend who is a travel writer wrote an article about the museum. After that, I just had to check it out for myself.
I was immediately impressed by the museum director, Char Lautzenheiser and her assistant curators by their courtesy and their wealth of knowledge about the huge collection of automobiles, motorcycles, and memorabilia. And for anyone interested in the history of Canton, Ohio and the surrounding area in general, these good folks can help you there also. And if you are like me, your first visit to the museum will get you lost in time in more ways than one.
Seeing the cars and memorabilia of the days of my parents and grandparents got me lost in time in one sense. And the time spent viewing the elegant displays and reading the descriptions on the placards also had me lost in time as I failed to keep track of how long I was there.
For the local residents and the traveler visiting the Canton area, I would suggest the Canton Classic Car Museum as a MUST SEE attraction on your list.
